The secondary school was opened on July 1, 1900. Construction of the building designed by architect Marfeld was carried out for 16 months. During this time, grew up a beautiful two- and three-story homestead – «the best quarter of the city», as they said at the beginning of the 20th century. The secondary school had well-equipped classes, laboratories, workshops, a library, an assembly hall, a foundry and the best sports hall in Oleksandrivsk. Also here were their forge, bathhouse, power station and store. Around the farmstead of the secondary school was a trellised fence of wrought iron, brick sidewalks, openwork wickets and low trees: a yellow acacia, lilac, barberry and olive. The mechanical and technical school itself was considered one of the best in Europe, participated in many World exhibitions, was awarded several diplomas and medals. Well-established training, equipped workshop departments – carpentry, model, mechanical, locksmith, forging, foundry – allowed the collective of the secondary school to produce professionally trained technics-mechanics. At the end of the first decade, 240 people attended the seven-grade secondary school at the same time. His graduates successfully worked at many machine-building enterprises.
