Taras Shevchenko Kharkiv Academic Ukrainian Drama Theatre

One of the oldest theaters in Ukraine, whose performances are now shown on three stages: the big, the small ("Berezil") and the experimental.

Kharkiv State Academic Ukrainian Drama Theater named after T. Shevchenko was founded in 1922 by the reformer of the Ukrainian theater, actor, director, folk artist of Ukraine Les Kurbas, who gave him the poetic name "Berezil ". Les Kurbas, Marian Krushelnytsky , Leonid Bykov – the most significant stars of the theater. In their honor, there are memorial plaques on the facade of the theater, and in front of its entrance to the cobblestone "literary stometrivka" – a memorial sign, dedicated to literary Kharkiv beginning of XX century. Since the theater served as a place for meetings with readers of Pavlo Tychyna, Sergei Yesenin, Volodymyr Sosyury, Alexei Tolstoy, Volodymyr Mayakovsky and others, the literary associations Pluh and Vaplite acted there.
