The Bell of Grief memorial

The memorial to the victims of fascism cannot be called a sight that you want to visit. But, of course, you need to come here to know and remember your history, honor the exploits of ordinary people who lived in the village of Nova Sloboda in 1942.

July 7, 1942 is one of the most tragic dates in the history of the village. It was on this day that the punitive divisions walked through each street, went into each house and barn with the sole purpose of killing each person, sparing neither the elderly nor the children. 586 people were killed, 70 of them children under 10. So the Nazis took revenge on people who helped the partisan detachments of Kovpak.

In memory of this event in 2004, a chapel was opened in the form of a bell. The author of the project is Anatoly Deineka, Honored Architect of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic. The interior of the chapel is rather modest: at the top you can see a wall painting, there is a candlestick, where everyone can put a candle for the peace of the dead. Also there is a unique icon of the Blessed Virgin, carved on a cypress tree.

The most touching and at the same time a terrible element inside is the marble slabs, on which are carved the names of all the villagers who died on that terrible day. On a permanent basis there is a photo exhibition "Life goes on."
