During the construction of the historical and cultural complex «Zaporizʹka Sich» in 2005, a whole series of stone pads was discovered. Further archaeological excavations and researches, made in 2006-2008, made it possible to discover and study 12 cromlechs – ring structures from stones, and 6 stone bookmarks of different sizes. This cult complex is one of the most interesting among the sanctuaries of Khortytsia. Firstly, it is distinguished by a very large safety of almost all structural elements. And yet this is one of the most ancient sanctuaries, he is already over 5 500 years old! These buildings were built by representatives of the Quitan culture in the late 5th – early 4th millennium BC. After the research, the entire cult complex was reconstructed at the level of the modern day surface, and is now available for inspection by all visitors to the island of Khortytsia.
