Alley of Glory

0 9 0

Not only veterans come to the Alley, but also schoolchildren, students, boys, going into the army, newlyweds. Today, various Alley of Glory can be found in almost all cities and even villages, but this tradition began to lay alleys, it is from Zaporizhzhia – this is the very first Alley of Glory of the Soviet Union. In 1965, throughout the vast country, the 20th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War was solemnly celebrated. Zaporizhzhia, the largest industrial center has already recovered from the war and built a peaceful life. The city leadership decided to celebrate this event unordinary for its time. In the Slavic tradition it was customary for luck and fate to plant near the houses of the oak, so that the genus might be strong and mighty, and the earth would become glorious. It was decided in the heart of the city, on the site of the beam to plant a green park. And do not just arrange a green zone, but invite Heroes of War, who liberated or defended the Zaporizhzhia region, in order that they planted their own tree in the new park. So they did – on the appointed day 35 Heroes of War solemnly planted their own trees in the new park and created the Alley of Glory – the most peaceful monument of all those dedicated to the war. In 1973, the Alley was extended on the other side of the main street of the city. Now the oaks were planted by Heroes of Socialist Labor.
