This is a large hydroelectric power station in the south of Ukraine, the fifth stage of a cascade of hydroelectric power stations, provides electricity to the Donetsʹk-Kryvyi Rih industrial area. The station is the oldest among the cascade of power stations on the Dnipro River. On its basis in Zaporizhzhia was created metallurgical, chemical and machine-building industrial complex. With the construction of the dam, which increased the water level by 50 meters in the Dnipro river, shipping began. On May 1, 1932, the Dnipro hydroelectric power plant produced a stream. In 1969 the construction of the Dniproges-2 and the new one in the single-chamber airlock began. The new gateway is a unique engineering structure, it has become a domestic analogue of the famous Panamanian locks. Now the total power of the Dnipro Hydroelectric Power Plant is 1538.0 MW.
