The Mill of Nibur

German Nibur is a representative of the third generation of Mennonite settlers from East Prussia. He was one of 14 children in his family and from the age of 8 joined the family business – he was the father's first assistant in running mills. At the age of 16, Herman Nibur already had the fame of one of the best millers in the region, and at the age of 23 he became the owner of the first own mill in the village of Khortytsia (Upper Khortytsia). At the beginning of the 20th century, the mills in Nibur's empire were already 11. The top of the career achievements of Herman Nibur was the construction of a huge five-story steam mill in the colony of Shenviz. Her Herman began to build under the impression of the largest mill in the world, seen in Minneapolis, when he traveled through America. In 1895, the mill was put into exploitation, its construction can still be seen at Sergiy Serikov street.
